Association of television and radio networks in the Asia-Pacific region, the creation of ABU was preceded by five Asian Broadcasters' Conferences (between 1957 and 1963) initiated by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). It has today 102 members in about 50 countries and areas
Mission: To establish relationships with organizations of broadcasting and other entities To promote and coordinate the study of all the problems involved in broadcasting, and to ensure the exchange of information on all these matters To encourage any initiative taken for the development of broadcasting in general, and especially in its use for purposes of education and national development.

Technical help to members Studies of new technologies and techniques Training with courses, seminars and workshops on many aspects of broadcasting Awards given annually for radio and TV programmes (Information Programmes, Entertainment Programmes, Children's Programmes, External Broadcast Programmes only for radio) Copyright and Legal Matters, work with the UNESCO and the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization)
